Sven Schönfeld, managing director of SRH Kliniken GmbH in the Sigmaringen district, is optimistic about an upcoming funding decision for up to 25 million euros from a nationwide funding program. These financial resources will be used in particular for... Modernization of the maternity ward and delivery rooms used.

The hospital is characterized by a qualified team. It has been certified as a “baby-friendly clinic” and has enough midwives. The planned investments aim to further improve the existing infrastructure for expectant mothers.

Expansion of Geriatrics

Another focus of the investments is on expanding the geriatric department. The SRH Hospital currently offers around 10 beds for geriatric patients, and in the future there will be around 90 beds. The new chief physician, Dr. Miriam Stengel will lead the geriatric concept from January 1, 2024. In addition to medical care, this also includes occupational and physical therapy as well as the overall assessment of patients aged 65 and over in order to avoid placement in nursing homes.

Supportive discharge management is also implemented to assist patients in finding short-term care places. Schönfeld emphasizes that criticism has been expressed in the past regarding the central emergency room (ZNA), particularly with regard to complaint management, which is perceived as time-consuming. Nevertheless, it is made clear that no patient will be turned away.

Digitalization and personnel situation

Digitalization in hospitals is being driven forward by the use of a mobile “visit cart” that is intended to support doctors and nursing staff in their work. These steps are part of a broader plan, which is also part of the Hospital Future Act is promoted. The Hospital Future Fund, which has been in force since January 1, 2021, provides a total of up to 4.3 billion euros to support investments in the digital infrastructure of hospitals.

The personnel situation in the SRH Hospital appears to be stable, as 18 graduates of nursing training have been taken on as employees. The previous investments and new hires strengthen the team and help to ensure the quality of care.

Another incentive for patients and visitors is the Café Auszeit, whose successful opening hours were recently adjusted. A new head chef with extensive catering experience also ensures that both patients and staff benefit from high-quality food.

In summary, it can be said that the SRH Hospital Sigmaringen responds to the challenges of the healthcare system through targeted investments and structural changes and strives to sustainably improve the quality of care for its patients.
