400,000 euros for new school canteens in Licusati and Castellabate!
A major investment project for schools in the Cilento area was published today. The municipality of Licusati, which is part of the municipality of Camerota, will receive financing of 400,000 euros for the construction of a new school canteen. This project is part of the PNRR (Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza) funds, which are dedicated to improving all-day care and building school canteens. Mayor Mario Salvatore Scarpitta described the construction as “a step towards improving school services and quality of life” in the region, underlining the importance of this initiative.
Decision-making on the allocation of funds will now take place in a timely manner, as the administrative procedures for the implementation of the project will be initiated in the coming days. Castellabate also benefits from this funding and, due to shifts in the rankings, also receives 400,000 euros to build a school canteen. The Councilor for Public Works, Nicoletta Guariglia, highlighted the importance of these measures and emphasized that the aim is to significantly improve the environment for the students.
Background of the PNRR initiative
The PNRR plan aims to modernize the Italian economy and increase competitiveness. A central concern of this plan is to improve the quality of education in Italy in order to find sustainable and innovative solutions to the challenges of the education sector. The impact of the pandemic on student outcomes has further exacerbated existing inequalities. About 10% of the PNRR budget is planned for education projects to enable targeted investments in schools.
Measures include providing schools with access to digital learning tools, improving infrastructure to support e-learning, and providing resources for teacher training and professional development initiatives. The focus is on digitalization and modernization to strengthen teachers' skills and competencies. All of this offers the Italian government an opportunity to invest in the future of the education system.
Criticism and outlook
Despite this progress, there were also some voices criticizing the authority's decision. However, these allegations are vigorously rejected by the mayor and the relevant authorities. The exclusion of financing is based on technical points and national criteria, not on arbitrary decisions.
With these new investments, other municipalities in the Cilento area will also benefit from the PNRR funds in the coming months, thus contributing fully to improving the educational infrastructure in the region.
