Amateur football in Berlin: drama, victories and new promotions!

Amateur football in Berlin and Brandenburg can look back on an eventful 2024/2025 season, which was characterized by exciting highlights and intensive discussions. The focus was particularly on a controversial promotion goal in the encounter between BFC Preussen and Eintracht Mahlsdorf. In injury time of the decisive championship game, a controversial goal caused controversy: assistant referee Tim Gerstenberg ruled that the ball was behind the line. Mahlsdorf complained that this wrong decision had deprived him of the championship. Nevertheless, BFC Preussen was able to celebrate promotion to the Regionalliga Nordost, while Mahlsdorf is now preparing for the next season, which includes, among other things, a change of coach and new additions.

Another happy moment for the football scene was the promotion of SD Croatia, which returned to the top league after 24 years. The club, founded in 1972, played a strong second half of the season, and coach Ayhan Bilek described the success as the greatest of his career. However, the NOFV's upcoming decision on admission to the Oberliga, which is to be announced by June 25th, remains more crucial.

Club successes and challenges

RSV Eintracht Stahnsdorf was able to win the Brandenburg State Cup after winning the final against VfB Krieschow 1-0. Ernes Matjaz scored the decisive goal. The club will face 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the DFB Cup, which represents a big challenge for Stahnsdorf.

Union Klosterfelde also celebrated success: They became champions of the association league and were promoted to the upper league - a historic event for the club. Coach Kevin Hetzel faces the challenge of developing the team further. The top scorers, Caner Özcin with 17 goals and Philipp Einsiedel with 15 goals, contributed significantly to the promotion.

A new player in amateur football is Delay Sports, founded by influencer Elias Nehrlich. With just one defeat in 29 games and an impressive goal difference of +186, the club was promoted to the district league. Delay Sports also plans to build a new football center in Berlin-Mariendorf by 2028 and has launched a cooperation with BFC Preussen for future projects. Their last game in the old venue took place on Sunday against Grünauer BC II.

BFC Preussen: promotion and future plans

BFC Preussen achieved promotion to the Regionalliga Nordost, which was secured by a 1-0 win against Eintracht Mahlsdorf in the 2024/25 season. President Uwe Utz, who has been in office since November 2023, emphasizes that the club has done its homework. The necessary documents for promotion were submitted to the Northeast German Football Association (NOFV) in March 2024. However, the Preussenstadion is currently not suitable for the regional league because it lacks a fenced-in guest area, a covered stand and floodlights.

The club has until June 15th to deposit an alternative stadium with NOFV. Possible options include the Lichterfelde stadium, while the Poststadion is excluded. BFC Preussen is also planning extensive construction work on its stadium, including the construction of a sports hotel, a functional building, sports halls as well as a beach volleyball field and a daycare center. The investment amount is around 70 million euros, with a groundbreaking planned next year.

Coach Daniel Volbert and assistant coach Thorben Marx have extended their contracts and are in the registration process for the Trainer A license. The club also plans to introduce morning training sessions to promote professionalization. The goal for the coming premiere season in the Regionalliga Nordost is to establish ourselves in the midfield of the league.

Former professional Marko Rehmer supports the club as a sporting advisor and thus contributes to the professional development of BFC Preussen and its ambitions in the regional league.
