Bad Tabarz: Five million euros for the health spa – a new era begins!

The municipality of Bad Tabarz plans to invest over five million euros in the energy-efficient renovation of the TABBS sports and health pool. This ambitious project is being pushed forward jointly by the municipal administration and the Bad Tabarz spa. As part of the second construction phase, extensive measures are planned, which will include electrical control technology as well as pool water technology, heating, ventilation and plumbing. The facade of the sports pool area and the dome of the adventure area are also to be renewed. This is the largest investment since the pool opened over 28 years ago.

The municipality of Bad Tabarz successfully took part in the ERDF competition “Sustainable urban development and energetic urban renovation”. This opens up access to 3.4 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund. Depending on the trade, the funding rate is 60 to 75 percent, which makes it easier to finance your own contribution. The personal contribution is to be covered by a special investment package from the Free State, although the cost calculation is already in progress.

Funding opportunities and sustainability

As part of the modernization measures, a photovoltaic system will also be installed, which will supply the pool with energy in the future. In addition, the construction of a new transformer station is necessary to increase efficiency. The municipality plans constant coordination between the pool management, the building authority and Thüringer Energienetze GmbH & Co. KG. The full implementation of the measures should result in at least 250,000 euros in cost savings annually, with significant savings in carbon dioxide emissions also expected.

Bad Tabarz is the smallest independent municipality in the Gotha district, but has the largest leisure facility in the region. In some cases, over 90 percent of the guests do not come from the community itself. The sports and health pool is considered the largest rehabilitation sports center in Thuringia and plays an important role in swimming lessons in the district. The pool business has also been debt-free since bankruptcy in 2017.

Federal funding for efficient buildings

The renovation of the sports and health pool is not only supported by local funds, but also benefits from the Federal funding for efficient buildings (BEG), which aims to support the renovation of buildings to save energy costs and protect the climate. This funding will continue in 2025, taking into account the provisions on provisional budget management. Owners of residential or non-residential buildings as well as municipalities can submit applications via the BAFA portal in order to benefit from the various funding programs.

The investment in Bad TABBS shows the community's commitment to sustainable development and improving the quality of life of its citizens. In view of the extensive funding opportunities and the financial support received from the European Fund, Bad Tabarz will remain an important location for recreation and health promotion in the future.
