Stock market rule Sell in May outdated - crises have a greater impact

Robert Halver, head of capital market analysis at Baader Bank, was critical of the old stock market adage “Sell in May and go away” in a wO TV interview. He argues that this saying has lost its meaning in today's globalized world. In particular, he points out that emerging markets hardly react to Western seasonal trends. Instead, Halver emphasizes that global crises such as energy and geopolitical conflicts as well as ongoing wars have a greater impact on markets.

For Halver, the upcoming May meeting of the US Federal Reserve and the persistently high inflation are more important than traditional stock market wisdom. Despite the existing inflation, he does not expect an immediate interest rate cut. It thus highlights the need to pay attention to other factors in order to make informed investment decisions.

Halver critically examines the traditional stock market motto “Sell in May and go away” and emphasizes the importance of global events for the markets. His assessment shows that in a connected world, investors must consider complex factors in order to make successful investment decisions.
