Can Tho relies on modernized power supply for explosive development!

Officials and workers from Can Tho City Electricity Company recently inspected the Phong Dien 110 kV substation. This substation is part of an extensive network managed by the company. In total, the company manages 12 110 kV substations and more than 55,000 kilometers of medium and low voltage lines. This infrastructure is critical to powering the city, meeting energy needs for both general consumption and business activities.

In order to meet increasing demands, the company is increasing inspections of its power systems, particularly medium and low voltage lines and transformer stations. There is particular focus on potentially congested areas to minimize electrical incidents. Plans to protect high-voltage network corridors are also on the agenda. This is especially done before important festivals and events to avoid long-term power outages.

Power supply and requirements

Can Tho City Electricity Company has provided comprehensive services to its more than 420,000 electricity customers in the first months of 2025. During this time, the company provided power to 33 important events in Can Tho. The company's commercial electricity production exceeded 1.1 billion kWh in the first four months of 2025, an increase of over 4.7% compared to the previous year.

Given the growing demand for electricity, particularly in industry, investments in the modernization and construction of new power grid projects are inevitable. The 110 kV Cai Rang Power Plant, which was commissioned at the end of April 2025 with a total capacity of 2 x 63 MVA, represents a central element of this effort. The project was financed by the Southern Power Corporation with over VND 110 billion.

Technological advances and projects

In order to optimize the quality of the power supply, the completion of medium and low voltage capacitor banks and switchgear was recently completed. These measures contribute to improving voltage quality and help reduce power losses. In addition, over 80% of the volume for 10 new 22 kV power grid projects has already been achieved. These projects are spread across the region's respective districts and cities, including a new pipeline to utilize the 110 kV Binh Thuy power plant.

Can Tho City Electricity Company also relies on the application of information technology in customer service through digital platforms to increase customer satisfaction. It is worth mentioning that all 110 kV substations are equipped with SCADA systems, which promotes the automation of network infrastructure. This is part of a long-term plan to mobilize investment resources to develop the power grid structure and improve the reliability and quality of electricity.

A stable and reliable power supply is essential for the Can Tho region, which is not far from cities such as Thap Cham and Phan Rang. Thap Cham is on National Highway 20, which leads to Dalat, while Phan Rang is on National Highway 1. Located near Thap Cham are the Po Klong Garai Cham towers, a tourist destination visited by travelers from all over the world. Only slow-moving trains stop in Thap Cham in terms of connectivity to this city.

Can Tho City Electricity Company's continuous investments and strategic planning are in line with the goal of future-proofing the power grid and meeting the growing needs of the population. The measures ensure that all important customers can count on a stable power supply in the future.
