DAX: Slight plus after a moderate start to the trading day

The Dax recorded a moderate increase on Wednesday after a largely unchanged start to trading, supported by positive impulses on the US stock exchanges. This means that the leading German index could make a new attempt to recover. At midday the DAX rose by 0.55 percent to 17,864.01 points. The MDax also rose by 0.30 percent to 26,051.23 points, while the overall mood in Europe brightened. After a nervous previous day, trading got off to a friendly start on the US stock exchanges.

Despite the current calm mood, there remains significant uncertainty in financial markets, particularly regarding potential escalations in the conflict between Israel and Iran. The US Federal Reserve's increasingly cautious stance regarding future monetary policy decisions is also contributing to market uncertainty. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell has dampened expectations of falling interest rates, raising doubts about further interest rate cuts in the US. The Fed's economic report, the Beige Book, is therefore awaited with great attention.

At the individual stock level, there were different developments on the German stock market: Adidas shares recorded an increase of 7.9 percent, while Continental was at the bottom of the DAX with a loss of 5.3 percent. Adidas was more optimistic for 2024 due to a strong start to the year, which was positively received by analysts. In contrast, Continental struggled with difficulties in automotive supply in the first quarter.

Companies such as Infineon, Aixtron and Süss Microtec continued to suffer from disappointing results from the Dutch semiconductor supplier ASML. Borussia Dortmund shares in the SDax, however, benefited from their return to the semi-finals of the Champions League after eleven years. On the other hand, Varta shareholders again recorded losses after the battery manufacturer announced that the previous restructuring concept was not sufficient.
