Urgent bridge construction: Duy-Phuoc and Ba-Ngan in focus!

Transportation planning in Quang Nam Province is facing important changes affecting both the Duy Phuoc and Bà Ngan Bridges. The Duy Phuoc Bridge, which connects Duy Xuyen District to Hoi An City, currently has a vehicle width of only 3 meters. This restriction has led to frequent traffic congestion, which is particularly noticeable in the morning and evening hours. The bridge is a crucial route that significantly reduces travel time to Hoi An and Da Nang. Popular Committee Chairman Le Van Dung has repeatedly stressed the need to build a new and wider bridge.

The pressure on the regional authorities is growing, especially during the repair work on the Cau Lau Bridge, which temporarily prohibits passage over the Duy Phuoc Bridge. This has further increased the demand from citizens and local authorities for investment in bridge construction. However, the financial resources for this project are limited as Quang Nam Province faces restrictions on public investments. Director of the Board of Directors for Investment and Construction of Transport Facilities, Nguyen Van Thuong, has emphasized that financing should be secured within the approved budget.

Investment plans for new bridges

On May 12, Le Van Dung visited the construction site of the new Bà Ngan Bridge over the Thu Bồn River. It was decided to start the construction of the bridge on August 12 this year using remaining funds from the Coastal Road 129 completion project. The existing Bà Ngan Bridge is also currently overloaded and is only 3 meters wide, causing similar traffic problems. The new bridge will be 12 meters wide and the construction cost is estimated at around VND200 billion.

Le Van Dung emphasized the urgency of building the bridge and its importance for economic and social development in the Duy Xuyen region and surrounding areas. It is expected that the new bridges will result in a significant improvement in the transport infrastructure, thereby improving the living conditions of local residents and the accessibility of important transport axes such as the national road 14H.

Financial situation and progress

About VND291 billion is still available for the project to complete Coastal Road 129. These funds will be urgently invested in infrastructure to strengthen the main transport axis between Võ Chí Công Road and Hoi An City. Under this plan, the project management board proposes to use part of the excess capital of around VND259 billion for the construction of the Duy Phuoc Bridge. These strategies are intended to help adapt aging infrastructure to the needs of socio-economic development.

Overall, transportation planning in Quang Nam is on a critical path to modernize the infrastructure and meet the needs of the population. Both the Duy Phuoc and Bà Ngan Bridges are at the center of efforts to improve transport connections in the region. Local authorities are called upon to accelerate the necessary steps to implement these projects.
