Elon Musk is bringing cheaper Teslas onto the market earlier

After a decline in sales at Tesla, company boss Elon Musk is planning to bring cheaper models onto the market earlier than originally planned. Musk is reacting to the pressure the company has experienced from competition from China and buyers' increased interest in hybrid models. Despite these challenges, Musk continues to emphasize the importance of all-electric powertrains for the future and promises to revolutionize the industry with self-driving cars.

The exact details about the new, cheaper Teslas remain unclear for the time being. Questions about the market launch, price and whether these are new models or adapted versions of bestsellers remained unanswered. The original plan was for the cheaper models to be developed on a new platform, while a robotaxi without a steering wheel and pedals was planned. The cheaper vehicles are now expected to be manufactured on current production lines using a mix of old and new processes.

Tesla does not provide a specific forecast for deliveries for the current year, but expects a slower pace of growth compared to 2023. Despite these challenges, Musk continues to emphasize his goal of making self-driving cars available to Tesla owners. However, the previous version of Tesla's “Full Self-Driving” software remains an assistance system in which the driver must always remain in control. Musk is sticking to enabling autonomous driving through cameras alone, while other companies are relying on more expensive technologies.

In addition to the plans for the cheaper Teslas, Musk also mentioned the development of the humanoid robot “Optimus”. This robot is intended to carry out initial simple manufacturing tasks and will be available for purchase to other companies by the end of 2025. Despite the disappointing quarterly results and a more than 40 percent decline in the share price since the beginning of the year, investors appear to be enthusiastic about Musk's future plans for Tesla, leading to a rise in the share price.
