Investments and digitalization

Stadtwerke Hanau invested a total of 47 million euros in 2024, which is 17 million euros below the planned value, but 20 million euros more than in the previous year. Work is also underway to revise the district heating pricing system, for which an audit by an independent expert has been announced.

Further large investments are planned for 2025, including 21.4 million euros in the electricity network, 3.6 million euros in the gas network, 4.8 million euros in the water network and 1.7 million euros for street lighting. This means that a new high-voltage connection will be implemented by 2026. In the area of ​​digitalization, new customer portals and a smart app are being developed to improve service. In 2024, almost 300 new photovoltaic systems with a total generation capacity of four megawatts were installed in Hanau.

Climate neutrality by 2040

Another central goal of Stadtwerke Hanau and the city of Hanau is to achieve climate neutrality by 2040. This was set as part of the development of a CO2 reduction strategy, which is reviewed annually. The focus is on avoiding and offsetting CO₂ emissions in the areas of electricity, heat, drinking water and internal emissions. The municipal utilities are also relying on an expanded public charging infrastructure, with the aim of implementing two new charging points every year by 2029. In terms of internal emissions, the aim is to reduce 690 t of CO₂ by 2030, which is equivalent to planting 7 football fields of trees.

Further measures to promote regional climate protection include planting 8,000 more trees by 2040 in collaboration with the Hanau-Wolfgang Forestry Office, greening our own properties and various projects to promote biodiversity.
