Freilassing: 50 million euros for modern schools – everything on schedule!

There are currently two large construction sites in the Freilassing urban area that will soon offer modernized schools for elementary and middle school students. The investment volume amounts to almost 50 million euros and the projects are on schedule despite the extensive work. This is what they report PNP.

The students are about to return to their newly renovated schools. The Freilassing primary school will grow to 20 school classes and offers space for over 600 students. Completion of the entire measure is planned for the 2026/27 school year, which means significant progress for the region's educational landscape, as well as the City of Freilassing highlights.

Progress on the construction sites

Work is currently underway on the facade of the elementary school, while the interior work is already well advanced. Five companies are in the process of installing the electrics, ventilation and roof. Drywall work is scheduled to begin at the beginning of September so as not to endanger construction progress.

The old parts of the elementary school building, which date from the 70s to 90s, were demolished in autumn 2023. However, the listed central school building on Georg-Wrede-Platz will remain. The new hybrid building, which consists of concrete and wood, will be divided into three parts.

New pedagogical concept and infrastructure

An innovative learning concept is being implemented through the new school buildings. The primary school is taught according to the Munich learning house concept, with hallways being converted into lounges and glass elements creating an open atmosphere. Younger students learn more from older students and the various educational offerings are closely interlinked.

The expansion of the infrastructure is also remarkable. A larger district heating pipe will be laid from the elementary school to the middle school. In addition, the new middle school building, which is being built at the same time, will offer space for 24 classes with up to 400 students. The middle school extension includes classrooms, a teaching kitchen as well as a music and art room and is also designed for sustainability.

The city council is investing around 49 million euros in the projects, with part of the financing coming back through state funding. The new school buildings meet the requirements of the German Society for Sustainable Building (DGNB) and integrate sustainable building materials, a photovoltaic system and a connection to local public transport. All of this shows the city's commitment to future-oriented education and infrastructure.
