Greens demand billions for rail after Lutz's departure as railway boss!

On August 15, 2025, Richard Lutz, the managing director of Deutsche Bahn, announced his early departure. Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU) announced the decision and said that Lutz will continue to run the business until a successor is found. These changes in the railway's management level have reignited the discussion about the future of the rail network.

The Greens in the Bundestag have then increased their demands for high investments in the rail network. Julia Verlinden, the deputy leader of the Green Party, commented on Lutz's resignation and emphasized that the replacement of leadership alone is not enough to initiate the urgently needed reforms at Deutsche Bahn. Rather, massive investments are necessary to ensure the functionality of the railway. She cited the special fund as a prerequisite for these investments.

Criticism of previous government work

Verlinden expressed sharp criticism of the government's previous work regarding Deutsche Bahn. In their opinion, the measures taken by the black-red government ignore the interests of rail customers. She identified several specific points that she believed needed to be urgently reconsidered. This includes:

  • Die Streichung der günstigen Familienreservierungen.
  • Die Rücknahme der Bahnfinanzierung aus der Lkw-Maut.
  • Die Weigerung, das Deutschlandticket langfristig günstig abzusichern.

These measures could further worsen the situation for passengers and make using the train less attractive. Verlinden therefore firmly called for the government to pay more attention to the challenges and needs of rail customers.

At the same time, in the digital world there are reports of challenges in dealing with email accounts. In particular, GoDaddy-hosted email addresses have issues related to migrations to Microsoft, which create confusion about using the premium feature of Outlook.com or GoDaddy's email servers. Recommendations include that users using an Outlook.com premium domain should ask GoDaddy to cancel their mailboxes to ensure smooth usage. Uncertainties about account management can pose additional hurdles in everyday digital life.

Overall, both Richard Lutz's resignation and the ongoing difficulties with email services show how important clear communication and strategic investments are for a functioning system, be it in the area of mobility or digital infrastructure.
