Green light for 3 million euro investments at Frauenkar!

Comprehensive investments in the infrastructure of the Wurzeralm will begin in the summer of 2025, which will make a significant contribution to improving the offerings for hikers and winter sports enthusiasts. Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG has announced that it will invest around 3 million euros in upgrading the facilities at Frauenkar. This investment is supported by the state of Upper Austria and is intended to secure the long-term attractiveness of the region. The construction work is scheduled to last around four months and will start in July.

The planned measures include the laying of a total of 8 kilometers of pipelines and 18 kilometers of power cables over a length of 3 km. In addition, a pumping station and a snowmaking system with 45 connection points will be installed. The aim is to be able to operate the Frauenkar run No. 3 with snow from next winter and thus ensure an improved infrastructure for summer and winter operations. Preparatory measures for the future construction of the Frauenkarbahn to increase efficiency are also part of the project.

Impairments for hikers

During the construction phase, which is scheduled to last until October 2025, restrictions on the “2 million years in 2 hours” circular hiking trail are expected. Those responsible also ask hikers to understand the hindrances caused by construction site traffic between the Almdorf and the Frauenkar valley station. Detours via the Linzerhaus and the path to the Teichleinfall are recommended to minimize the impact on the hiking trails. In particular, hiking trail 218, which runs parallel to the construction site, could also be affected.

The construction work is planned to make a technical snowmaking system on runway number 3 operational from the 2025/26 winter season. For this purpose, among other things, a transformer station to ensure the energy supply and cast iron pipes, which are necessary for the snow cannons, will be installed. Overall, the investments consist not only of buildings, but also of the implementation of new technologies to increase efficiency in ski operations.

The Wurzeralm is an important location in Upper Austria's ski offering, the attractiveness of which will be sustainably increased by the upcoming investments and infrastructural improvements. This is particularly relevant given the increasing importance of sustainable winter sports.
