Halle invests 1.3 million euros: new playground and green area are being created!

The city administration of Halle (Saale) is planning comprehensive investments to sustainably upgrade the south of Halle. A resolution will be presented to the city council in June for the new green infrastructure project, which is intended to create a continuous green connection between the Südstadt and Silberhöhe districts. Loud dubisthalle.de The total investments amount to around 1.3 million euros, two thirds of which come from funding.

A central element of the project is the planned construction of an inclusive neighborhood playground on Grenobler Straße. The plan envisages a net play area of 2,480 m² for children aged 0 to 12. Currently, the play area supply in the Südstadt I and III districts is only 1.90 m² per child, while 6 m² is recommended. The playground, developed in collaboration with students from the “Carpe Diem” special school under the motto “sky, forest and meadow”, offers a wide range of exercise options such as play towers and equipment for balancing, turning, swinging and jumping.

Infrastructure measures and environmental goals

Another aspect of the project is the creation of a new pedestrian and cycle path axis. This will run over 400 meters from Paul-Suhr-Straße/Kiewer Straße to Grenobler Straße and create a connection between the park on the southern promenade and the Silberhöhe district park. This measure closes a gap in the green network in the south of Halle and supports the structural development of the district in Südstadt III.

The planned measures are part of the Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK) for the “South of Halle” and aim to improve environmental quality and social infrastructure. In addition, the implementation of the project is a response to the challenges that climate change poses for cities and communities, as can be seen from the initiatives to develop decentralized, blue-green infrastructure. This project, which started in Halle in January, is supported by several partners, including the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research and the Competence Center for Water Management (KZWW), such as competencezentrum-wasserwirtschaft.de reported.

The goal is to develop a holistic concept for water-sensitive urban development. These include potential studies that are intended to advance the simulation of pilot projects in urban areas. Isabel Schuster from the KZWW emphasizes that the simulation results are intended to derive essential measures and recommendations for sustainable urban design. The coordinating role of the KZWW over a period of 1.5 years is also intended to ensure that existing data sets are harmonized and analyzed to support efforts to improve urban infrastructure.

Construction on the measures is scheduled to begin in spring 2026 and completion is expected within nine months. The city of Halle is taking a significant step towards becoming a more environmentally friendly and livable city.
