Draft budget for Saxony's sport: improvements and open questions!

Christian Dahms, General Manager of the State Sports Association of Saxony, spoke positively about the final budget draft for sport in the Free State. In a statement, he emphasized that the central concerns of organized sport were taken into account in the political discussion. Particularly noteworthy are the additional funds made available for inclusion and the integration of refugees through sport. The “Strengthening Volunteering in Sport” program is also being taken into account, which represents a positive development for the voluntary structures.

Another central issue is increasing remuneration for trainers in the sports sector. This measure is considered essential to promote recognition of the work of coaching staff. The improved pay and the possibility of a three-day educational leave are intended to retain well-trained trainers and attract new talent. However, the LSB criticized the lack of an increase in investment funds for sport, especially in the area of sports facilities. Dahms demands that Saxony use the opportunities offered by the federal government's special fund for investments in sport in order to provide targeted funding.

Educational exemption and investment needs

The educational exemption could not only contribute to training and further education in sport, but also make employers in the field of sport more attractive. Nevertheless, Saxony lags behind other federal states when it comes to this point. The State Sports Association sees the need to actively support the implementation of the measures decided in the budget and is committed to strengthening organized sport.

Integration through sport

In parallel to the developments in the sports budget, the social integration of refugees through sport is also very popular in Saxony. In this context, the BAMF is organizing an event day with the topic “Administration and Diversity” on July 4th as part of the Nuremberg Digital Festival. The topics of equality, equal opportunities and inclusion are discussed.

The first half of the event includes a presentation on accessibility in applications and content to improve accessibility for people with different needs. The second half will take place as a fishbowl talk, where participants from public administration and schools in the region will discuss the importance of diversity in IT. The motto of the event is: “Mountains of files, fax machines and stacks of forms – How public administration is not shaping the future.” In this context, experiences should be exchanged and the best stories from the administration presented in a challenge.

Further information about this event can be found on the Nuremberg Digital Festival website. Sport and integration from different perspectives are becoming more and more linked, which enriches society.
