Hue in the tourism ranking: Lack of investment is slowing down progress!
In early summer 2025, Thuan An Beach in Hue City attracts numerous tourists who mainly come to swim and enjoy fresh seafood. Despite the increasing interest, many visitors complain about a lack of investment in beach facilities, which detracts from the city's appeal. According to a survey, tourists in Hue spend an average of about VND2 million per person, indicating the potential to strengthen the local economy through increased investment.
Vietnam Tourism Association vice president Dinh Manh Thang expressed concern that Hue urgently needs quality services as well as investors to compete with neighboring cities such as Da Nang and Quang Nam. Although there are 887 accommodation establishments in Hue with almost 14,100 rooms and 22,650 beds, only 24 hotels are classified with 3 to 5 stars, which offer a total of 3,424 rooms.
Lack of international hotel brands
A blatant lack of high-quality international hotel brands is also an obstacle to the region's tourism development. While tourists often stay in Da Nang or Hoi An despite visiting Hue, the city falls short of expectations. So far, only a few major investors such as Laguna Lang Co, VinGroup and BRG have implemented projects in the region.
The few ongoing projects include Langco Bay Retreat and SBH Gloria Hue Resort. Tourism Authority Director Tran Thi Hoai Tram emphasizes the need to reduce bottlenecks and promote targeted investment. Local authorities are also actively working on a comprehensive plan to develop the tourism sector until 2030, with a long-term vision until 2045.
Government support and funding
There are also government funding opportunities for improving the tourism infrastructure. In Germany, for example, the public tourism infrastructure in 14 federal states is supported by federal and state funds in order to increase the attractiveness and quality of tourism offerings. Municipalities or legal entities with charitable goals can benefit from subsidies of up to 60% of eligible costs, which can even be up to 95% if there is cooperation between municipalities.
