Annual financial statements in Gescher: Surprising figures and challenges!
On July 3, 2025, the city of Gescher presented its financial situation, which includes both positive and critical aspects. According to the current reports, the annual financial statements are 183,000 euros higher than the previous year. Nevertheless, the planned annual surplus was 70,000 euros short. This decrease is partly due to expenses for materials, third-party services and electricity costs, which were reduced thanks to new supply contracts.
However, there are also negative developments. The income was a total of 27,000 euros lower than expected. Higher additional expenses of 14,882 euros and reduced fee income of 12,164 euros contribute to this deviation. The city's total fees are around three million euros, which corresponds to a deviation of one percent. The largest cost item is sewer TV, cleaning, maintenance and repairs, which amounts to 72,000 euros. According to city representative Hackling, more examinations and uncosted repairs are included in this amount.
Investments and emergency generators
Investments totaling 4.9 million euros are planned for the coming years by 2027. Financing should come from depreciation and loans. A central element of these investments is the purchase of an emergency generator, which will cost around 555,000 euros and will be installed stationary at the sewage treatment plant in Gescher. This is particularly important in order to be able to maintain operations even in crisis situations in which power is temporarily unavailable. In addition, Hochmoor already has its own backup power system.
A further 650,000 euros are earmarked for the renewal of the system technology in the pumping station in Hochmoor. These measures are part of the comprehensive planning to replace the medium voltage at the sewage treatment plant, which became necessary after a fire last year.
Distribution and concerns
The city of Gescher is also planning a distribution of 105,000 euros from the annual surplus in order to strengthen the budget situation. Christoph Gand from the FDP expressed concerns about the distribution and was the only one who voted against it. From the point of view of the committee members, the management report on the wastewater works is indispensable and will not be questioned.
These financial challenges and strategic investments illustrate the city of Gescher's ongoing efforts to increase its profitability and at the same time implement necessary infrastructure measures. In view of this situation, transparency and the clear presentation of the financial situation in accordance with IFRS requirements are becoming increasingly important. The objective of ensuring a structured representation of the asset, financial and earnings situation is crucial in order to provide useful information for economic decisions, as provided by the regulations of the IFRS.
The regulations on the balance sheet, statement of comprehensive income and other important elements enable better understanding of the company's situation and promote management responsibility for the assets under management. The regulations emphasize that a clear and understandable presentation of the annual financial statements is of enormous importance for everyone involved azonline.de and haufe.de.
