AI could lead to the spread of the four-day week

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly prominent in the world of work. Some experts even go so far as to believe that the spread of AI could lead to the introduction of a four-day week. This change could benefit different companies. According to tech visionary Elon Musk, advanced AI technologies could make all jobs obsolete in the future. Some experts, including US investment bank Jefferies, expect that AI will make workers more efficient, making the introduction of a four-day work week more likely.

Bank of America cites Henry Ford as a historical example, who believed that more free time for his employees would lead to an increase in car sales. Similarly, automation and AI could lead to workers being freed from monotonous tasks, thereby resulting in more free time. Bank of America predicts that a four-day work week, through more free time, could have a positive impact on the leisure and entertainment industry, which has particularly suffered from the impact of COVID-19.

Amplify ETFs CEO Christian Magoon thinks leisure and entertainment stocks could benefit from a four-day workweek. He sees gaming stocks in particular as potential winners from this trend, especially given the demographics of a younger workforce. Online stocks, including cloud computing and cybersecurity, could also benefit from a shortened workweek. Amplify ETFs holds shares of companies such as IONOS, Nice, Broadcom, Cisco Systems and General Dynamics with this expectation.

It is becoming clear that the increasing spread of AI could have a major impact on the world of work, possibly leading to a shorter working week. Companies active in leisure and entertainment and online stocks could be among the winners of this shift. This possible change requires a rethinking of work culture and could offer new opportunities for investing companies.
