Artificial intelligence: trust and challenges for German companies

Current surveys show that more and more managers in Germany are putting their trust in artificial intelligence (AI), especially since the introduction of generative AI. According to a study by Deloitte 75% of the 150 executives surveyed said their trust in AI has increased, while the global average is 72%. This speaks for a positive trend in the use of AI technologies in German companies.

A significant use of generative AI can be found in the area of IT and cybersecurity, where 44% of companies use these technologies. In addition, 48% use generative AI in marketing, sales and customer service. These areas of application are intended not only to increase efficiency, but also to improve the quality of services.

Implementation challenges

Despite the increased trust in AI, there are significant challenges in implementing generative AI in Germany. 35% of executives surveyed cited compliance with regulatory requirements as one of the biggest hurdles. Other challenges include identifying suitable use cases (25%), developing and implementing strategies (31%) and difficulties in risk management (29%). Interestingly, the results show an increase in these challenges compared to the first quarter analysis.

An additional problem remains the shortage of skilled workers, which was rated as a hurdle by 41% in the first quarter and only 36% in the second quarter. This shift could indicate that companies are developing strategies to address skills shortages.

Expectations of Generative AI

Despite all the challenges, the study also shows that companies have high expectations of generative AI. 53% of respondents expect productivity increases, while 35% expect cost reductions. 34% of managers hope to achieve more innovation and growth through the implementation of generative AI. This means that companies are adopting progressive approaches aimed at long-term improvements.

A particularly positive side effect of using generative AI is that 64% of those surveyed report that software and system development is progressing faster and more efficiently. This indicates that German companies are making good use of the potential of generative AI and preparing for the future.

In summary, the increased trust in AI technologies and progress in implementation can be seen as positive indicators. In order to exploit these advantages, experts recommend investing more in the training and recruitment of skilled workers. These measures are crucial to meet the challenges of current and future market requirements.
