Lychee Wedding 2025: Bac Giang reaps success in digital commerce!

Luc Ngan, a major mountainous region in Bac Giang Province, Vietnam, is known for its rich agricultural resources and is particularly specialized in growing fruit trees with high economic value. Annually, the region produces about 150,000 to 200,000 tons of fruit, including lychee, orange, grapefruit, longan, apple, guava and dragon fruit. June is the main harvest time for the popular lychees, which this year are growing on an area of 10,384 hectares. The estimated yield will be 65,000 tonnes, of which 13,860 tonnes are early lychees and 46,640 tonnes are mid-season lychees.

In a notable move to increase production quality, 66.96% of litchi cultivation areas are certified with VietGAP standards, resulting in an estimated yield of approximately 46,300 tons. Since the harvest began, farmers have already sold around 6,000 tons of early lychees, with 41% of them exported. Local authorities have established steering committees to support harvest and consumption activities and promote cooperation with the border provinces of Lang Son, Lao Cai and Quang Ninh for smooth customs clearance.

Promote lychee consumption

The Bac Giang Provincial People's Committee recently organized a virtual conference on lychee consumption to discuss new sales strategies and increase sales. This event was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture, regional authorities and international trading partners. Trade Minister Nguyen Hong Dien was particularly interested in the modern business methods that e-commerce brings into play, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Significant news is the recently granted Certificate of Origin Protection for Lychee Luc Ngan in Japan, which should increase export opportunities. Bac Giang has now obtained trademark protection for the lychee in a total of eight countries, including China, the USA, Japan and Australia. This is particularly important as lychees from Luc Ngan are the first agricultural products in Vietnam with an officially protected indication of origin in Japan.

Digital transformation in agricultural trade

As part of a strategy to digitally transform agricultural trade, a program was launched by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in collaboration with Jin Pro Network Media and Entertainment to promote litchi and other agricultural products through digital platforms from June 6 to 7, 2025. During this event, workshops were held dedicated to the use of digital platforms for advertising and sales. On June 7, 2025, the event's live streams reached a remarkable 30 million views and 1,578 orders were completed in a single day, highlighting the efficiency of these new sales methods.

Overall, Bac Giang can hope to increase the consumption of the lychee crop in 2025 and gradually turn this fruit into a national product. The region pursues the integration of agricultural production and rural tourism and promotes the networking of companies, production units and service providers to improve sales.

The local infrastructure to support lychee cultivation is also well developed. Five plants for the production of foam boxes and 25 for industrial stone production have a capacity of 6,000 tons of lychee per day. There are also almost 2,000 drying ovens available that specialize in processing dried lychees. Support is also provided by local commercial banks, which offer financial services to promote the movement of goods during high season.

The future of litchi cultivation in Luc Ngan looks promising. Through the combination of modern technology, international standards and close cooperation between local authorities and business, the region could make significant progress in agricultural trade in the coming years.
