MAN plant in Nuremberg: Folk festival for the 184th anniversary and vision for the future!
On July 12, 2025, the MAN factory in Nuremberg celebrated its first family day in nine years and at the same time the company's 184th anniversary. Around 3,000 employees and a total of around 9,000 guests, including Mayor Marcus König, experienced an event that offered a folk festival atmosphere with numerous attractions. A Ferris wheel with a height of 40 meters, which offers space for 200 passengers, was built especially for this occasion by the Landwermann family of showmen, who exclusively use MAN trucks. 2,500 tons of material were delivered for the construction of the Ferris wheel. The supporting program included, among other things, a music stage, a beer tent and numerous children's attractions such as bouncy castles and magic shows, which made the day unforgettable.
As part of the celebrations, MAN CEO Alexander Vlaskamp emphasized the successful start of battery production at the site. This move marks the diversification of the company, which previously mainly manufactured high-performance diesel engines. Vlaskamp explained that the site now stands on two strong pillars: battery production and the latest MAN diesel engines, especially the D30 PowerLion. Since the 1920s, the factory has produced a total of around four million engines, and with the new battery production, capacity can be expanded to up to 100,000 battery packs per year in the future, depending on the market situation.
Investments in the future
Investments totaling 500 million euros are planned for the future of the plant, of which 250 million euros will go specifically to battery production. The new production line for batteries and the latest generation of MAN diesel engines are now in operation. Bavarian Prime Minister Dr. Markus Söder and State Minister Hubert Aiwanger were also present at the symbolic start of battery production and pressed the start button in the new M50 production hall.
Production includes energy storage devices for electrically powered buses and trucks. With the start of series production of MAN's eTrucks in June, the need for high-voltage batteries will continue to increase. The batteries for the MAN eTGL, MAN eTGS and MAN eTGX truck models are manufactured in Nuremberg, as well as for the e-buses of the Lion’s City E family. Vlaskamp described this day as historic for the company and highlighted the significant transition into a new era.
The combination of celebrations and the company's ambitious realignment shows that MAN is prepared to continue to be successful in the changing automotive industry. The positive response to the family day suggests that those affected and the region are behind these changes.
