Masonry of the historic stock exchange in Copenhagen collapsed

After a fire at the historic stock exchange in Copenhagen, the masonry of the burned-out half collapsed. The fire department tried to save the damaged side, but the risk of collapse was too great. Emergency services were concerned that more parts of the facade could collapse and the investigation was delayed for safety reasons. There are no reports of injuries after the collapse.

The historic stock exchange, which houses the Danish Chamber of Commerce and also an art collection, was badly damaged in the fire. The streets and the area around the building remain cordoned off. Despite the loss, both the city mayors and the Chamber of Commerce emphasized the building's importance for Denmark's cultural history and announced its reconstruction.

The 17th century building, which was scaffolded due to restoration work, is located on the eastern tip of the island of Slotsholmen and is a popular tourist destination in Copenhagen. The fire, which particularly affected the part near Parliament, led to the collapse of the stock exchange's striking spire. Efforts to rebuild the important architectural building are already underway.
