Nidau surprises: 2024 financial statements close with 4.3 million plus!

The city of Nidau has presented its annual financial statements for 2024 and concluded with a positive result. The financial statements are a remarkable 4.3 million francs better than budgeted, although a deficit of 4.3 million francs was originally planned. This development is particularly clear on the income side of the calculation, which shows higher tax income of around 3.1 million francs. The electricity supply also delivered a better result of around 430,000 francs, which contributes to the positive overall bill. Nau.ch reports these encouraging figures and emphasizes the importance of a balanced result for the city.

A closer look at the expenditure side shows that Nidau, despite some higher burdens, can demonstrate the beginning of financial stability through significant reductions in expenditure. There was a reduction in expenses for structural and operational maintenance of 350,000 francs. The maintenance of movables and intangible assets also cost 125,000 francs less, while services and fees were 160,000 francs below budget. In addition, a decrease in depreciation on administrative assets amounting to 220,000 francs was recorded. What is particularly notable is the reduced wage expense of 590,000 francs.

Higher loads

Despite the positive aspects, there were also higher pressures that need to be taken into account. The financial and burden equalization payments (FILAG) were 150,000 francs above budget. In addition, write-downs on receivables resulted in additional expenses of 940,000 francs. A value adjustment on investments reduced the bill by around 250,000 francs. In addition, the completion of the lido had to accept negative effects of 155,000 francs due to the consequences of flooding in December 2023.

The city of Nidau is planning around 6.4 million francs for infrastructure investments in 2024, which is above the average of previous years. These increased investments also result in follow-up costs for depreciation that will accompany the commissioning of new systems. The 2024-2029 Financial Plan will provide additional information on these financial aspects to provide a comprehensive picture of the City's future financial condition. The financial plan can be read on the official Nidau website: Nidau.ch.

The 2024 annual financial statements will be presented to the city council for approval on June 19, 2025. This positive development shows that, despite major challenges, the city is well on its way to stabilizing its finances and making future-oriented investments.
