Austrians can purchase federal treasures again

Austrian citizens now have the opportunity to invest money with the state again, as the popular federal treasures are available again after an interruption of a good four years. Opening a digital account only requires the presence of a digital ID, which is widely used in Austria, and a minimum investment amount of 100 euros. Finance Minister Magnus Brunner emphasizes the security and user-friendliness of the investment process and promotes this investment alternative, which does not include any expenses or account management fees.

The federal treasures offered online by the Austrian Federal Finance Agency are intended exclusively for private customers. There are five terms to choose from, from one month to ten years, without price risk or trading on the markets. An early return is possible, but with a discount of 0.05 percent per month of the outstanding term. The interest rates, which are set daily, vary depending on the term and range from 2.5 percent to 3.5 percent at the start.

An innovation in federal treasuries is the introduction of “green” investment options, which are specifically designed for investors who want to invest in an environmentally conscious manner. These green federal treasures, which are allocated to specific environmental projects, offer investors the opportunity to participate in the financing of green initiatives such as expanding rail infrastructure or supporting the energy transition. Opposition politicians expressed concerns about solely using the digital ID card for identification as it could make access more difficult for older customers.
