Quang Nam strengthens trade and tourism: Forum in Laos is enthusiastic!
A forum to promote trade, investment and tourism was held in Laos from May 23 to 25, 2023. This important event was attended by a delegation from Quang Nam consisting of representatives from the Ministries of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The aim of the forum was to develop the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) and the Vietnam-Laos Trade, Investment and Tourism Fair, Laos-Vietnam 2025. It was part of the 2025 Economic Diplomacy Program and served to implement the 47th Meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee. Over 400 delegates from Vietnam, Laos and Thailand took part in this exchange and discussed investment strategies.
A central concern of this forum was to improve cooperation in the areas of trade, tourism and investment along the EWEC. This economic initiative is a high priority for Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand as it aims to further strengthen economic ties between these countries. Nguyen Van Trung, the Vietnamese Consul General in Pakse, recently stressed the importance of the EWEC and the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle (CLV). Vietnam is actively pursuing development and investment strategies to strengthen these ties.
Promoting tourism and investment
The trade, investment and tourism fair attracted numerous companies from the region. Quang Nam set up a 24 m² shared stand that presented various publications and souvenirs. The exhibition also featured OCOP (One Commune One Product) products from Quang Nam, including Ngoc Linh ginseng, fish sauce and handicrafts. In addition, a film about the important travel destinations and products from Quang Nam was shown.
Local industries and products were also recognized during the forum. Exhibiting focuses included agricultural products, processed foods, clothing, electronics, household appliances and industrial machinery. This variety of offerings demonstrated Quang Nam's potential and attractiveness for investors and tourists.
Cooperation programs for the region
The CLV region was founded back in 1999 to implement targeted cooperation programs in border areas and promote socio-economic development. The cooperation covers areas such as transport, telecommunications, energy, investments, as well as healthcare, culture and education. The EWEC was originally launched in 1998 and stretches over 1,450 km from Mawlamyine in Myanmar to Da Nang in Vietnam. Increased infrastructure development, including transport, port and logistics connections, will further improve connectivity to neighboring countries.
The forum not only represented an important platform to exchange information about investment potential and policies, but also to strengthen bilateral cooperation activities. The aim of these initiatives is to support Vietnamese companies in expanding markets in the southern provinces of Laos, thereby further strengthening economic ties between Vietnam and Laos.
Overall, the forum reflects Vietnam's strategic vision of strengthening the economy through intensive cooperation with neighboring countries. These efforts are not only economically relevant, but also contribute to regional stability and development. Further details about this forum can be found at Vietnam.vn and Maoist Dazibao.
