Record investments in the AI sector: $40 billion for OpenAI!
Reported on June 19, 2025 Vietnam.vn, that US AI startups continue to attract high levels of investment. This year, 24 companies each raised $100 million or more, underscoring the continued momentum in the industry.
Most notable is the funding of Glean, an enterprise search firm that raised $150 million in its Series F and is now moving forward at a valuation of $7.25 billion. Anysphere, a provider of programmable AI cursors, also raised $900 million in Series C and reached a valuation of almost $10 billion. Snorkel AI, which specializes in AI data labeling, raised $100 million in Series D and now has a valuation of $1.3 billion.
Record funding for OpenAI
OpenAI has closed a record $40 billion funding round, pushing the company's valuation to a massive $300 billion. The lead investor, SoftBank, is supported by investments from other venture capitalists including Magnetar Capital, Coatue Management, Founders Fund and Altimeter Capital Management. The completion of this round is expected to bring OpenAI to a valuation of over $300 billion, compared to $157 billion following its October 2024 funding round, notes ComputerBase firmly.
SoftBank's funding includes an initial investment of $7.5 billion, followed by $2.5 billion from a consortium. An additional $22.5 billion and $7.5 billion are expected to be made available later this year. This massive cash injection supports OpenAI in its ambitious plans to achieve revenue of $12.7 billion in 2025, a three-fold increase compared to last year.
Investing in defense technology and European startups
Investments in European defense startups are also showing strong growth. Between 2021 and 2024, this amount is expected to increase by more than 500%. For example, the German company Quantum Systems raised 160 million euros, reaching a valuation of over 1 billion euros, while Tekever from Portugal is also valued at over 1 billion euros. Boston investors are also involved in financing Helsing, a company developing combat drones and autonomous submarines, which raised 600 million euros, bringing its value to 12 billion euros.
Munich-based ARX Robotics recently raised €31 million for a ground drone fleet and plans to invest £45 million to build a new factory in the UK. This highlights the growing relevance of AI and autonomous systems in the defense sector and shows that the potential for technological innovation is immense today.
In addition, Google has announced that it will integrate the AI video creation tool Veo 3 into YouTube Shorts. This is intended to provide users with new creative options after YouTube Shorts views grew to 200 billion per day. Veo 3 will currently create 8-second horizontal videos in 720p, with further adjustments to the vertical format planned.
