Revolution in textile recycling: Schwyz company brings new technology!
In the Swiss canton of Schwyz, Climatex AG in Altendorf has developed a promising technology that has the potential to usher in the recycling revolution in the textile industry. The company has established a process that enables the separation and recycling of materials in textiles. According to chief technologist Fredy Baumeler, this technology can be used to separate different materials such as polyamide and cotton at the end of the life cycle. This is done on existing textile production machines, which minimizes the need for large investments.
“People will not consume less,” says Baumeler and at the same time criticizes the state’s prohibition policy. He calls for clear framework conditions to promote environmentally friendly technologies without restricting the population's enjoyment of consumption. Climatex is currently working with a German furniture manufacturer to process offcuts from production and efficiently separate return furniture.
Circular economy in the textile industry
The importance of the circular economy is becoming increasingly urgent, especially in light of scarce resources and the pressing challenges of climate change. Only one percent of all textiles produced worldwide is currently recycled; the majority ends up in the trash. Climatex's efforts aim to raise awareness of this issue and present innovative solutions. According to current discussions and research results, as discussed at the Technical University of Berlin, circular economy and recycling are central elements of a sustainable economic system.
The “Circular Economy and Recycling Technology” department at TU Berlin deals extensively with the identification and characterization of raw materials in the environment. Not only is the development of circular technologies being pursued, but also their optimization at various levels. The focus on recycling solutions and the efficient use of resources is crucial in order to prevent the challenges of the resource-saving economy.
A growing awareness shift in society, supported by upcoming legislation in the EU, could further strengthen the circular economy niche. Companies like Climatex are well positioned to lead in this new era of sustainable textile production.
Overall, it shows that technologies that promote the recyclability of textiles are crucial for the future of the fashion and furniture industry. As pressure grows to reduce waste and protect the environment, companies that embrace innovative recycling processes could be at the forefront of the changing economic landscape.
