Russia sends 20,000 naturalization migrants to the front!

Russian authorities report the recruitment of around 20,000 migrants who were sent to the war against Ukraine after becoming naturalized. This information comes from Alexander Bastrykin, head of the Investigative Committee, as he told the state news agency Tass. A total of 80,000 men were registered for military service, and of these, 20,000 found their way to the front. The migrants come primarily from Central Asian countries such as Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. This development shows that Russia remains a destination for immigrants even more than 30 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

In order to capture the newly naturalized men, military investigators carry out raids. These raids are aimed at finding those men who do not want to register with the military. The situation in Russia is reflected in forced recruitment, which affects many migrants.

Reactions to the recruitments

These recruitment measures are not only viewed critically in Russia itself. In this context, the EU has imposed new sanctions against two German bloggers living in Russia, Alina Lipp and Thomas Röper. These measures result from the spread of misinformation about the Ukraine war. The sanctions include travel restrictions, asset freezes and a ban on providing financial resources.

Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul emphasized the need for strategic patience and the economic pressure on Russia. This comes alongside further sanctions imposed by Britain in response to a drone attack on Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia was just trying to buy time.

International diplomacy

As part of diplomacy, the EU has implemented a new package of sanctions against Russia. This includes a tightening up against the Shadow Fleet. Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius accused Russia of using stalling tactics in peace talks. In addition, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas called for tough measures from the USA if there was no ceasefire.

In a broader political context, Russia released a Greek oil tanker that had previously been detained in Russian waters. The European and Ukrainian leaders were also shocked by a phone call between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. Trump expressed that Putin wanted to end the Ukraine war and saw an opportunity for peace. This conversation was the third since Trump took office.

The current developments in the Ukraine conflict highlight the complex geopolitical situation and the challenges for the international community, which is pushing for a solution.
