The sponsoring association of the Sachsenheim outdoor pool has been committed to maintaining and operating the popular swimming facility since it was founded in 2004. The club is currently investing in necessary renovations to keep the location attractive. These measures are partly financed by the association's own resources and partly with support from the city. Axel Griesbaum, a representative of the association, recently spoke at the BMU about the importance of citizen engagement for the outdoor pool.
The Besigheim outdoor pool, on the other hand, is currently not affected by closures or renovation measures, which should bring some relief to the local population.
Civic engagement
The city of Sachsenheim plays an important role in employing the employees in the outdoor pool, which currently consists of a total of four permanent employees as well as temporary workers and cleaners. The sponsoring association, as the tenant of the outdoor pool, is responsible for ongoing operations and maintenance. Club members are actively involved in various areas: They maintain the green spaces, help at the cash registers and carry out minor repairs.
In order to carry out specific maintenance work, a craftsmen's committee was set up within the association. However, the public sector has to step in for larger repairs that go beyond the association's capacity. The support from the city of Sachsenheim is a crucial factor here.
Technical challenges
An urgent concern of the club members is the condition of the water pumps, whose age leads to an increased need for maintenance. In the next one to two years, new pump technology will be needed to ensure efficiency and cost reduction in operations. The goal is to purchase energy-saving pumps that not only reduce operating costs but are also more environmentally friendly.
