Sick opens ultra-modern production hall in Donaueschingen!
On June 1, 2025, SICK AG celebrated the opening of its new production hall, also known as “Plant 5”, at the Donaueschingen location. This state-of-the-art hall was successfully completed and handed over, which is seen as a significant step for the future of the site. The information comes from a recent press release from the company, which underlines its clear commitment to the region and the further development of production capacity.
With an area of around 2,500 m², the new factory produces a variety of turned and milled parts from high-quality materials such as stainless steel, aluminum and titanium. The total area of the new building is 3200 m² and also includes modern office, meeting and social rooms. This investment is not only progress for SICK, but also a significant signal for economic development in Donaueschingen.
Investment and building history
The construction of the new production hall began on March 12, 2024, with an expected total investment of approximately 9 million euros. The general contractor Goldbeck Süd GmbH realized the new building. Ulrike Kahle-Roth, CEO at SICK, explained that the hall is equipped with the latest manufacturing technology and automation solutions that enable improvements in storage technology, chip disposal and internal logistics. This not only increases production capacity, but also increases the efficiency of processes.
These innovations are in line with SICK's long-term strategy of proactively meeting market requirements and sustainably supporting the company's growth. SICK itself is a leading provider of sensor-based applications and was founded in 1946 by Dr.-Ing. e. h. Erwin Sick founded. The company's headquarters are in Waldkirch, near Freiburg, where over 12,000 employees work in more than 50 subsidiaries worldwide.
Positive effects for the region
The “Plant 5” production hall is not only important for SICK, but also for the entire Donaueschingen region. It promises new jobs and a strengthening of the local industrial sector. Given the group turnover of around 2.2 billion euros in the 2022 financial year, the opening of the new hall is seen as a positive signal for the local economy.
The investments in Donaueschingen are part of an ongoing development of the company, which also completed a new parking garage at the location in 2023. With the new production hall, SICK underlines its commitment to the region and its willingness to invest in future-oriented technologies.
