Scandal surrounding TikToker Vo Ha Linh: tips and tricks or fraud?

On May 17, 2025, it was announced that Tran Huu Linh, the director of the Department of Internal Market Management and Development, had opened an investigation into TikToker Vo Ha Linh. A consumer had complained that Linh gave deep discounts during her livestream sales and offered products at prices below market value. This complaint resulted in a document being sent to Ho Chi Minh City's Market Management Department to thoroughly investigate and resolve the matter.

The Vietnamese Association for Consumer Protection (VICOPRO) had already called for a review of the sales activities of KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders) and KOCs (Key Opinion Consumers), which include Vo Ha Linh, at the end of March. This request was a direct response to the recurring allegations against the influencer, including dumping practices, selling substandard goods and calls for her followers to hoard products.

Dumping practices and market distortions

Vo Ha Linh, who is one of the most prominent KOLs in livestream sales in Vietnam, has raised concerns in the consumer community through her sales strategies. Their products were often sold at prices well below market prices, putting traditional retail at serious risk. The association has already warned that such persistent dumping prices could lead to a distorted market situation.

Ahead of a livestream session on March 15, Vo Ha Linh called for stockpiling goods as she feared e-commerce platforms would increase their fees. This behavior led to further criticism of their sales strategies and concerns about transparency in their business practices.

Statement by Vo Ha Linh

In a statement on her official social media page on March 30, Vo Ha Linh assured her commitment to transparency and the interests of consumers. She emphasized that there were no requests from authorities, but she was ready to provide all the information needed. The TikToker, whose channel garnered 3.7 million views during a livestream session on October 10, 2024, continues to be an influential figure in the e-commerce space despite the controversies.

In addition, Vo Ha Linh was already criticized in April 2023 when she worked with a shampoo brand that also offered products at dumping prices. This campaign resulted in pharmacies and other representatives calling for a boycott, while the TikToker and the brand said it was an "exclusive deal" with a limited number of products.

The current developments surrounding Vo Ha Linh illustrate the challenges facing livestream sales and online retail in Vietnam. Consumers and regulators must work together to find solutions to ensure a level playing field and protect consumer interests.
