Tenerife's fire department is looking for 52 new emergency services for more safety!

On June 16, 2025, the call for tenders for 52 positions of specialized firefighters (subgroup C1) was approved by the Consortium for Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue of the Island of Tenerife. Rosa Dávila, President of the Island Society, emphasized the commitment to improving the ability to respond to emergencies. The announcement comes as the safety of the people of Tenerife remains the top priority. Dávila underlined that the increase in staff will lead to a better service for citizens and clarified that the tender is based on the Consortium website can be found.

A budget of 25.9 million euros was approved for 2025, which corresponds to an increase of 1.48% compared to the previous year. This increased budget is intended to enable the reinforcement of staff and the implementation of important infrastructure and equipment projects. In addition to the announcement of 52 new positions, internal promotion processes are also being carried out for 19 chiefs of staff. New investments focused on improving the Icod de los Vinos park and the facilities in Guía de Isora were also announced.

Renewal and expansion of the fire brigade infrastructure

Blanca Pérez, the city councilor for Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security and Emergencies, reported on the opening of a new fire station in Arona, planned for next year. A temporary park will also be set up in Guía de Isora. Iván Martín, Director of Security and Emergencies and President of the Consortium, pointed to investments in new vehicles and equipment, including modern drones, recently acquired.

The consortium also works closely with eight volunteer fire brigade associations on the island, which will receive eight new vehicles this year. The voluntary fire brigades play a crucial role in providing safety for the population and tourists. They are engaged not only in firefighting, but also in providing technical assistance in traffic accidents and conducting rescue operations.

The role of volunteer fire departments

The Tenerife Fire Department operates five full-time fire stations in Santa Cruz, La Laguna, La Orotava, San Miguel and Icod de los Vinos. Each station is permanently staffed by eight professional firefighters on 24-hour shift duty. In addition, there are other voluntary fire stations whose members dedicate their free time to keeping citizens safe. These volunteers serve in a variety of areas, including training, preparedness, event fire and security guards, and technical assistance.

However, the voluntary fire brigades have limited resources and often only receive limited support from municipalities. In order to optimize their operations, they aim to procure replacement vehicles and equipment through donations and sponsorship. Their services include, among other things, firefighting support, personal rescue and rescue as well as preventative fire protection measures. The importance of these organizations for general security in Tenerife is unmistakable.
