TRUMPF: Strong decline in sales despite the drive for innovation in 3D printing!

The TRUMPF Group closed the 2024/25 financial year with a significant decline in sales and incoming orders. It recorded a decline in sales from 5.2 billion euros to 4.3 billion euros. Order intake also fell to 4.2 billion euros, marking the third year of crisis in a row for the company. The declines were double-digit, particularly in the core markets of Germany, the USA and China, making the situation challenging for TRUMPF.

The head of TRUMPF, Nicola Leibinger-Kammüller, said that there are no signs of a turnaround in the third year of the crisis. Nevertheless, the decline may have bottomed out, as both incoming orders and sales have stabilized at a level that is perceived as too low. Reported in this context wirtschaftskraft.de that operating earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) fell to 501 million euros, a decrease of 114 million euros compared to the previous year.

Strategic investments and efficiency improvements

Despite the economic challenges, TRUMPF is committed to expanding its technological expertise, particularly in additive manufacturing. The company shows its drive for innovation with optimizations of the TruPrint series, which is used in areas such as tool making, aviation and medical technology. In connection with this, TRUMPF saved around 350 million euros, which analysts consider to be a significant achievement. These funds will now be used for strategically important investments, particularly in automated 3D printing processes.

The challenges for TRUMPF are also reflected in the various market regions. While Germany remains the highest-selling individual market with sales of 824 million euros, the USA recorded a decline in sales of 11.5 percent to 796 million euros. In China, however, sales rose by 2.2 percent to 615 million euros. The machine tools sector achieved the highest sales at 2.8 billion euros, but recorded a decline compared to the previous year, while the newly designated electronics business area increased by 4.8 percent to 572 million euros.

Research and development as a pillar for the future

TRUMPF remains active in research and development and is increasing the number of employees in this area by 8.6 percent to 3,098. Research and development expenses amounted to 530 million euros, which corresponds to a development cost ratio of 10.3 percent, which is above the industry average. Overall, the number of employees worldwide grew by around 650 to 19,018, with an increase of 4.2 percent to 9,505 in Germany.

Detailed results for the past financial year will be published on October 22, 2025. Despite geopolitical and economic uncertainties, TRUMPF is innovation-oriented and strives to find sustainable solutions in additive manufacturing, which is viewed as a long-term relevant business area. 3druck.com reports on these developments and the company's strategic direction.
