Over 212 million euros for public transport: Saxony-Anhalt invests in mobility!
Saxony-Anhalt is investing massively in the future of local public transport (ÖPNV). As part of a comprehensive investment program, more than 212 million euros will be made available over the next two years to strengthen the public transport system in the region. This reports lok-report.de. Financing comes from a mix of federal and state funds, with around 136 million euros coming from federal financial aid and over 76 million euros from state funds.
The aim is to increase the attractiveness of public transport services and attract new passengers. To this end, around 270 specific projects are to be funded, including almost 60 new projects. Minister Dr. Lydia Hüskens emphasizes the importance of well-developed infrastructure for people's mobility. The measures are designed to support economic development in Saxony-Anhalt.
Funded projects and investments
The planned investments include various projects aimed at improving the quality of local public transport. The funded projects include, among others:
Criteria and requirements for funding
The awarding of grants is tied to certain criteria to ensure the efficiency and necessity of the measures, explained lvwa.sachsen-anhalt.de. A project must, among other things, be urgently necessary, be part of a general transport plan and be designed flawlessly both economically and from a planning perspective. It must also take into account the principle of thrift and take into account the concerns of people with mobility restrictions.
Not only transport infrastructure companies are eligible, but also local authorities and, in certain cases, even public and private companies. Various documents are required to register a project, including the description of the project, evidence of urgency and an overview of the financing sought.
Overall, these measures show that Saxony-Anhalt is determined to modernize public transport and adapt it to current needs. This is an important step towards more sustainable and user-friendly mobility in the region.
