Van de Velde remains under pressure: declining sales and trade conflicts!

The Belgian lingerie group Van de Velde reports a decline in sales and profits in the first half of 2025. Sales amounted to 110 million euros, a decrease of 2.8 percent compared to the same period last year. This development is influenced by several factors, including challenges in the US market and planned investments in the repositioning of the Sarda brand, which are having an additional negative impact on the balance sheet.

The swimwear segment in particular suffered from lower sales and presented a significant challenge compared to expectations. Despite growth in the direct-to-consumer channels, which only account for a small share of total sales, this could not offset the negative development. At the same time, B2B business, which accounts for the largest share of sales, also experienced a decline. Pre-sales and sales in the first quarter fell short of expectations, due in part to high inventory levels.

Sales trends and market conditions

However, the second quarter saw a recovery as sales picked up again. This could indicate a positive trend for the coming months. However, net consolidated profit fell significantly in the first half of the year by 19.8 percent to 15.8 million euros. This financial decline continues in a difficult trading environment, particularly in April and May, where imported goods were severely limited due to import tariffs. Various measures were taken to make the entire offer available again.

In summary, Van de Velde identifies several challenges in the current market situation. The decline in sales and profits is primarily the result of market conditions in the US, investments in brand strategy and a general disruption in the swimwear segment. The coming quarters will show whether the targeted measures to reposition the brand and improve sales figures in the B2B sector can lead to a stabilization of the financial situation.
