Vodafone shares in a downward trend: Why investors need to remain patient
According to a report by www.sharedeals.de, the Vodafone share WKN: A1XA83 has once again shown a long-lasting downward trend since the end of January. Despite the positive stock market environment, the share is already down 6.4% again for 2024. Vodafone's current business figures and forecast do not seem to convince investors and the share price continues to decline.
The Vodafone Group, a British telecommunications company, has been in transition for some time. The group headquarters is in London and the current market value is around €20.55 billion.
The third quarter results show consolidated sales of €11.372 billion, a decrease of 2.3% compared to the same period last year. Service revenue is also lower than in the previous year. Although there has been a slight increase in service sales in Germany, overall the figures show a downward trend. The forecast for the full year does not indicate a rapid improvement either.
Analysts rate the stock differently, with some expecting a drastic dividend cut and others expecting share buybacks. Technically, the share remains caught in a long-term downward trend and there is no sustainable trend reversal in sight.
In my opinion, Vodafone shows little sign of a quick recovery. Competition with Deutsche Telekom will continue to be challenging and investors are required to be patient. Although the stock may seem attractive with a favorable price-to-earnings ratio and a strong dividend, in my view there are better investment options at the moment. I have already sold my own investments in Vodafone shares because I would be prepared for a slow recovery. The stock remains cheap, but patience is the most important investor characteristic in this case.
