Wall Street indices give back gains

Wall Street turned negative despite initial gains as investors continued to be cautious about the Middle East crisis. Both the Dow Jones and the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq technology exchange recorded losses. Nevertheless, market participants expressed cautious optimism for the future, as the feared oil shock did not materialize thanks to falling oil prices. Mercedes-Benz was the most profitable car company in the world in 2023. ProSiebenSat.1 exceeds analyst forecasts, while Südzucker expects profits to collapse due to higher production costs.

Samsung reclaimed the top spot in the smartphone market from Apple in the last quarter. The US is encouraging the move of chip production from Asia to Texas by Samsung setting up several locations with government support.
