Wolfsburg strengthens security: Mobile barriers for major events!

The city of Wolfsburg has set its sights on strengthening security at public events. The aim is to increase the safety of visitors, participants and residents, especially given that public events can often be targets for terrorist attacks or rampages. The central measure for this is the planned purchase of mobile crossing barriers of the “Citysafe” type.

These safety precautions cost around 261,000 euros and cover a total length of 95 meters. The city council will decide on the proposal for the purchase on June 18th. Before the political consultation, the city administration will already be actively working on the concept. The mobile barriers are intended to be used primarily at large events such as the shooting festival, old town festival and the boar festival.

Details on how to procure the Citysafe barriers

The storage and construction of the barriers is the responsibility of the city-owned WAS Service GmbH. The mobile systems are versatile and can be adapted to various event formats. This is particularly important as security requirements may vary depending on the event.

The modular “Citysafe” system has already proven itself in other municipalities, which makes the decision in favor of Wolfsburg easier. In addition, collaboration with surrounding communities is planned, which will enable additional locks to be borrowed. The middle Porschestrasse, as the central event location, is given particular focus.

Long-term security concepts

To permanently secure Porschestrasse, the installation of fixed, retractable barriers is planned, with the planning of these protective systems being carried out in coordination with Wolfsburg Wirtschaft und Marketing GmbH. A detailed template for the fixed barriers is expected to be presented in October 2025. The mobile barriers will be used on a temporary basis until these permanent systems are installed.

The Silbitz Group's CitySafe® vehicle barriers are certified, patented, mobile and maintenance-free. These features make them more cost-effective compared to traditional truck barriers, which are often technically complex and expensive to purchase and maintain. These innovative solutions make a significant contribution to safety on our roads and at events by providing stable vehicle barriers that prevent uncontrolled vehicles from passing through.

The city of Wolfsburg's measures underline the priority that local authorities and event companies give to the safety of visitors and participants. These planned investments are an important step towards greater protection at public events.
