Bitcoin revolution in retail: Frankfurt Laufshop accepts cryptocurrency

Starting this Saturday, customers in the Frankfurt running shop can pay for sports shoes with Bitcoins. This innovative method offers the possibility of using digital cryptocurrency as a means of payment that is not controlled by the state. Jost Wiebelhaus, the owner of the running shop, emphasizes his company's openness to new technologies and changes.

Although Wiebelhaus is not the first retailer in Frankfurt to accept Bitcoins, it is still a pioneer in this area. Fashion designer Leonid Matthias has been allowing his customers to pay with Bitcoins in his store in Sachsenhausen since 2019, even though only a few customers have made use of this option so far.

Joachim Stoll, Vice President of the Hesse-South Trade Association, praises retailers' initiatives to accept Bitcoins as a means of payment as forward-looking. By integrating alternative payment methods such as cryptocurrencies, business people can become more independent of traditional payment service providers and thus adapt to the needs of a modern and international clientele.

The prices in the running shop are set according to the current Bitcoin rate, although customers need a so-called wallet on their smartphone to carry out the transactions. According to Stoll, the additional effort for retailers is minimal and will be positively received by an international clientele that is present in Frankfurt at trade fairs and, in the future, at the European Championships. This highlights the growing trend of cryptocurrency acceptance in retail and the willingness of business people to integrate innovative payment methods.
