Bitcoin becomes digital gold: Bitwise is betting on $200,000!

Bitwise, a renowned crypto asset manager, recently maintained its bullish forecast for Bitcoin and expects the price to reach $200,000 by the end of 2025. This assessment is supported by strong institutional demand and positive developments in the Bitcoin ETF space. In a recent report, Bitwise highlights that Bitcoin reached an all-time high of $112,000 in May 2025, driven by significant ETF inflows as well as growing corporate demand. The strategic Bitcoin reserves in the USA also contributed to the positive price development the shareholder.

Unlike Bitcoin, there are dampening expectations for altcoins such as Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL). These two cryptocurrencies have been in the red since the beginning of the year and urgently need to develop strong narratives to survive in the competition. Bitwise analysts, including CIO Matt Hougan and head of research Ryan Rasmussen, are less confident about the future price performance of these altcoins. Macroeconomic risks are currently slowing the bull market and holding back the prices of ETH and SOL.

Forecasts and market developments

The forecast issued is primarily based on strong institutional demand and the expectation that Bitcoin ETFs will generate net inflows of over $35 billion in 2024. To date, inflows into Bitcoin ETFs total $13.8 billion, indicating growing access to Bitcoin and the potential that widespread adoption could unlock trillions in capital over the long term. Bitwise also viewed progress on regulatory issues, such as the U.S. Department of Labor's lifting of crypto restrictions on 401(k) plans, as critical to future market development, such as Bitwise determines.

Additionally, the value of stablecoin assets has increased by 30% to $260 billion, underscoring the growing importance of stable digital currencies. At the same time, tokenized real-world assets have doubled to $25 billion, reinforcing the trend toward digital assets.

Future perspectives

Bitwise remains optimistic for the second half of 2025, seeing advances in crypto legislation and increasing institutional demand as key factors that could drive further growth. Nevertheless, there is hope for increasing interest in stablecoins and ETF approvals. While Bitcoin is increasingly seen as “digital gold 2.0”, ETH and SOL remain under pressure in the current market situation. The company recommends easy ways to invest in Bitcoin and Ethereum without a wallet through products such as “Bitcoin Direct ETP” and “Ethereum Direct ETP” from NxtAssets.

Overall, it can be seen that the crypto landscape in 2025 will be influenced by numerous factors, presenting both risks and opportunities for investors. The need for altcoins like Ethereum and Solana to reposition themselves and develop innovative approaches is becoming increasingly clear, while Bitcoin continues to be the focus of institutional investors.
