Bitcoin payment in the Frankfurt running shop: New era in retail

Starting this Saturday, the Frankfurt running shop will make it possible to pay for sports shoes with Bitcoins. This digital means of payment, which is not subject to government control, is welcomed by many customers as an innovative option. The owner of the running shop, Jost Wiebelhaus, emphasizes his company's openness to new technologies and emphasizes that they are always committed to innovation.

Although the running shop is one of the first in Frankfurt to accept Bitcoins, fashion designer Leonid Matthias has been practicing this method in his store in Sachsenhausen since 2019. Nevertheless, it turns out that the use of Bitcoin as a payment method at Matthias has only been tested by very few customers. The vice president of the Hesse-South trade association, Joachim Stoll, praises such innovative steps in retail as forward-looking, as business people reduce their dependence on traditional payment service providers.

The payment option with Bitcoins is seen as particularly attractive for international customers who are present in Frankfurt during trade fairs and, in the near future, during the European Championships. The prices in the store are calculated according to the current Bitcoin rate. Customers simply need to present a so-called wallet on their smartphone to process the transaction. According to Stoll, this means only minimal additional effort for retailers, but it can have positive effects on business transactions in the long term.
