Bitvavo receives MiCA license: crypto revolution for all of Europe!

Crypto exchange Bitvavo, founded in Amsterdam in 2018, has made significant progress in its corporate history. On June 27, 2025, it was announced that Bitvavo received the MiCA license from the Dutch regulator AFM. This new license allows Bitvavo to offer its services in all EU member states as well as Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. According to the statement, this is a critical step for the company and its nearly two million users.

Jeetan Patel, the Chief Risk Officer at Bitvavo, highlighted the importance of this license. He described it as an important milestone that will support not only the company but also its users in the ever-evolving crypto world. In addition to Patel, CEO Mark Nuvelstijn also commented on the new developments. He emphasized the importance of MiCA regulation and how it can create a unified set of rules for the crypto sector in Europe.

Uniform rules for crypto service providers

The Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) ensures that there are uniform rules for crypto service providers operating in Europe. This regulation offers users greater clarity, better protection and stricter oversight of the services offered. Bitvavo already had registrations in countries such as France, Spain and Italy, and the new license will allow the company to focus even more on additional European markets.

In addition, Bitvavo has made a name for itself through low costs, a user-friendly app and an extensive range of digital currencies. This has helped position Bitvavo as one of the largest players in the EUR spot market. For Nuvelstijn, supporting the core principles of the MiCA Regulation is a step towards a level playing field in the European crypto sector. Companies such as Kraken have also received MiCA licenses in other countries, including Ireland, highlighting the growing interest in regulatory clarity in the industry.

The granting of the MiCA license not only represents a milestone for Bitvavo, but could also be a signal for other crypto companies in Europe to adapt to the new regulatory framework and benefit from it.
