Federal Government Ignores Blockchain: What Does That Mean for Investors?

The Federal Ministry for Digital and State Modernization (BMDS) has announced that it is not planning its own blockchain department. Despite the growing relevance of technologies such as Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, the federal government does not seem to comment on these issues in its high-tech agenda. This is particularly surprising since blockchain and Bitcoin are internationally considered future technologies that are being actively promoted in many countries. In Germany, however, there are regulatory hurdles that crypto companies must overcome, which could hinder the development of these technologies, reports BTC ECHO.

The internal deadline for possible objections to the BMDS decision expires in the coming days. This means there may still be room for discussion and change should enough voices be raised. While the federal government is leaving these opportunities unused, investors are continuing to look at the ongoing changes in Bitcoin interest in Germany and are analyzing investors' preferred cryptocurrencies.

A look at the Berlin Blockchain Week

Another important aspect of the blockchain landscape in Germany is the Berlin Blockchain Week (BBW). This event was founded in 2018 and is a decentralized, community-organized initiative. There is no single owner, but the movement is based on self-organization. BBW aims to reduce market noise and focus on education, collaboration and knowledge sharing, as described on the event's official website blockchainweek.berlin.

All BBW events must take place in Berlin and must not include online events in order to be included in the official BBW calendar. The BBW follows a simple concept: the focus is on promoting education and providing affordable options for the community. In addition, the aim is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment in order to motivate as many participants as possible.

Efforts for Berlin Blockchain Week 2025 are loosely coordinated by the Department of Decentralization, including maintaining the website and sharing relevant news via the Twitter account @berblockweek. The wave of interest in blockchain technologies and innovative financial instruments, including crypto, remains a central theme that will shape the digital agenda of the future.
