New initiative: Bitcoin emoji to be created

In today's digital era, where emojis form a significant part of communication, a movement is gaining strength calling for the introduction of its own Bitcoin emoji. Over 35 crypto organizations have launched a petition for the Bitcoin emoji and have already collected more than 10,000 signatures within a week. The supporters of this campaign include renowned industry giants such as Kraken and Polygon.

The initiative, themed “Bitcoin Deserves an Emoji,” was launched to promote the creation of an official Bitcoin emoji. This movement has attracted global attention and aims to mobilize 50,000 supporters to enable the application of the Bitcoin emoji to the Unicode Consortium, which is responsible for standardizing emojis across various digital platforms.

Kosta Kantchev, co-founder and CEO of Nexo, highlights the market dominance and widespread acceptance of Bitcoin and emphasizes the need for a universal symbol for this cryptocurrency. With over 1.26 billion Bitcoin addresses and a multitude of professionals within the crypto community, the creation of a Bitcoin emoji is considered overdue. Major organizations such as Chainalysis, Kraken and Polygon have also thrown their support behind the campaign.

The Bitcoin emoji movement draws inspiration from successful initiatives in the past, such as Taco Bell's campaign for a taco emoji or Tinder's campaign for an emoji for mixed-ethnic couples. These examples illustrate how cultural and community support can influence the Unicode Consortium to add important symbols to the global emoji library.

Cryptocurrency industry leaders and organizations see the introduction of an official Bitcoin emoji as a recognition of a cultural symbol and a contribution to anchoring Bitcoin in global culture. The creation of this emoji reflects a collective effort to further strengthen the importance and influence of Bitcoin and bring the digital currency to a wider audience.
