Superman returns: James Gunn surprises with fresh style!

James Gunn's new Superman film promises to show the classic hero in a fresh light. Gunn, known for his work on Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, will be writing and directing this project. David Corenswet stars as the iconic Superman, while Rachel Brosnahan stars as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult stars as Lex Luthor. The film's story begins early and leads the audience directly into a relationship between Lois and Clark Kent.

An interesting twist in Gunn's film is the inclusion of Superman's dog Krypto, who plays an important role throughout the story. Instead of a traditional origin story, the narrative begins in Antarctica, right next to the Fortress of Solitude. What's special about this approach is that the story doesn't show the familiar beginnings of Superman's career, but instead focuses on current conflicts and relationships as Clark Kent returns to his work at the Daily Planet.

Innovative characters and plot developments

The plot contains many innovative elements, such as the introduction of Metamorpho, portrayed by Anthony Carrigan. This less conventional figure is introduced into the story to expand the dynamic between the characters. What's particularly interesting is that the plot involves a first defeat for Superman, which gives the character a new, more human dimension. Lex Luthor, who operates in his high-rise building with drones with the help of his henchmen, represents an important antagonist.

In the film, Lois Lane confronts Clark not only with his duties as a superhero, but also with his journalistic ethics. She questions his actions, which leads to exciting dialogues between the protagonists. Particular tension arises when Luthor traps Superman in a pocket universe, prompting the Justice Gang's intervention. This group includes characters such as Green Lantern, Mister Terrific and Hawkgirl, who further enrich the plot.

Humor and social issues

Gunn's style is characterized by quirky humor and visual gags that lighten the story while addressing deeper themes. The film addresses Superman's status as an outsider and reflects universal questions of identity and integration in the context of the American immigrant experience.

In contrast to Zack Snyder's previous, more serious tone, Gunn's film presents a lighter, quirkier narrative that's obviously aimed at re-engaging audiences. The result is an innovative and refreshing perspective on one of the most iconic superheroes in comic book history. The combination of emotional depth, exciting plot elements and a humorous approach could make Superman a new favorite in the film series.
