Trump announces: India is surprisingly removing tariffs on US goods!
In a surprising turnaround, India has agreed to remove all tariffs on US goods, according to US President Donald Trump. He proudly claimed that India had made this decision solely because of him: “They wouldn’t have done this for anyone else but me.” The news came after the Trump administration received an offer from India for a zero-for-zero tariff deal on auto parts, steel and pharmaceuticals, as watcher.guru reports.
While India has not officially confirmed Trump's claim, negotiations continue to take place between the two countries. This decision follows the US imposing 10% tariffs to balance trade. Meanwhile, India and the UK have signed a new free trade agreement after three years of negotiations. This is intended to make it easier to export British goods such as automobiles and reduce taxes on Indian clothing exports, as the BBC reported.
However, tensions remain between the US and China, another BRICS member. Despite heated discussions over tariffs, including a huge 140% tariff on Chinese goods, Trump declared that the US was "open" to binding trade agreements with several countries. Still, he stressed that many of these deals, including the one with India, have not yet been finalized.
