Consuming needs to be learned: Consumer advice centers present a wide range of school-based consumer education options
The majority of those surveyed in a 2023 survey by the Federal Association of Consumer Organizations (vzbv) are of the opinion that consumer-related topics are neglected in school. In the opinion of those surveyed, the handling of money and insurance in particular is still not given enough consideration. But the topics of nutrition and health, environmental protection and fair trade as well as cell phone and internet use are not yet sufficiently taken into account in school education.
The consumer advice centers and the vzbv are therefore presenting a wide range of real-life materials and formats for school consumer education at didacta in Cologne from February 20th to 24th. With a variety of self-learning and teaching materials, workshops with experts or further training for multipliers, learners and teachers are intended to be specifically supported on consumer-relevant topics. The interactive educational offerings aim to create an “aha experience” for children and young people and thus promote the development of consumer awareness at a young age.
