Phishing alarm: Consumer advice center warns of fake Amazon emails
The consumer advice center has pointed out irregularities at Amazon that are related to “unusual login activity” and account suspensions. Recently, there has been an increase in certain emails from Amazon to customers highlighting security issues and asking them to reset their password. These emails contain instructions on how to reset the password.
There are also reports of ING Bank customers receiving similar emails with the subject line “Your account has been suspended due to incorrect registration information” and a request to update account details. However, it should be noted that Amazon is not behind these emails and they are scams designed to steal sensitive data.
The consumer advice center therefore warns against phishing emails and recommends not responding to such Amazon emails. It is strongly recommended that you do not open such emails at all and move them to the spam folder if left unanswered to protect yourself from possible fraud attempts. If fraudulent emails are suspected, the appropriate authorities should be informed so that further action can be taken.
