Refunds for electricity customers: Primastrom and Voxenergie pay back credit
Hundreds of customers of the electricity providers Primastrom and Voxenergie can look forward to refunds soon. An out-of-court settlement with the Federal Association of Consumer Organizations (vzbv) has meant that around 1,600 consumers who were involved in model declaratory actions can expect the price increases to be reversed. Both Primastrom and Voxenergie have promised to refund any credit balances in full. In return, the consumer advice center has agreed to withdraw its lawsuit against the inadmissible price increases before the Berlin Court of Appeal.
The affected customers of the two electricity providers should receive their refunds in the coming days, according to vzbv. There is talk of “impressive” amounts in the four-digit range, with one consumer even receiving a refund of 5,500 euros. According to vzbv board member Ramona Pop, the settlements achieved a positive result for consumers as a lengthy legal dispute could be avoided.
In October 2022, the vzbv filed two model declaratory actions against Primastrom and Voxenergie due to inadmissible price increases. This came after numerous complaints from consumers. It is reported that, especially since 2021, the two providers have increased electricity prices by more than three times and gas prices in some cases by nine times.
