Class action lawsuit against Vodafone: Financial expert uncovers unjustified surcharges for landline customers

The telecommunications provider Vodafone has been informing its landline customers about price surcharges since April. You can pay – or hope for a class action lawsuit.

According to a report by Telecom Handel, Vodafone began raising prices for its existing customers' internet tariffs last month. All cable and DSL customers who concluded their contract before November 15, 2022 are affected.

The Federal Association of Consumer Organizations (vzbv) assumes that the price surcharges are not justified. In customer emails, Vodafone informs about the new price structure and cites “increasing energy prices and higher costs for operating the networks” as the reason. Nevertheless, affected customers should contact vzbv to file a class action lawsuit against Vodafone. The aim of the lawsuit is for Vodafone to restore the old prices and refund overcharges collected.

Interested customers can contact vzbv using an online form. Among other things, it is criticized that Vodafone justifies the price increase with the increase in energy prices and the possibility for customers to cancel. It is also thought that Vodafone's General Terms and Conditions (T&Cs) may face judicial review.

Vodafone's price increase has a potential impact on the market and consumers. If the class action lawsuit is successful, it could lead to a change in Vodafone's pricing policy. Other telecommunications providers could also be checked by consumer advice centers to see whether their price surcharges are justified. This encourages consumers to take action against unjustified price increases.
